About 6 hours drive from Helsinki, 1½ hours from Kuopio, an hour from Joensuu. In winter ice-road (7 kms) across Lake Pielinen to Vuonislahti.
By train
Expresses from Helsinki to Joensuu take about 4 ½ hours. Onwards from Joensuu the best alternative is the Shuttle Taxi (see below for a rough timetable).
