Hiking and Biking

Koli is renowned for its national landscape and the National Park. The Park’s hill scenery, lakes, rare geological formations and swidden culture attract 100 000 visitors annually. In summer hiking trails, in winter ski and snow shoeing trails invite you to experience the reality of the Park. Tourism is carefully combined with the Park’s role in protecting this unique environment.

Beyond the National Park you’ll find hiking, ski and snow shoeing trails as well as snow mobile routes.

Summer:

Hiking and Biking

Koli offers numerous opportunities for hikers and bikers. In addition to marked routes there are paths to follow with a hiking map or a local guide. Beyond the boundaries of the National Park there are dozens of other marked hikes available. There is a marked hiking/partly mountain bike trail from Joensuu (70 kms), or bike from the Juuka Stone Centre via Larinsaarentie. Or why not hike to the Park from Kopravaara just off Highway 6 – from Future Freetime Centre onto the Herajärvi Circuit and hence to Koli.

The Herajärvi hiking trail

The trail is 40 km long. It offers a demanding hike through the forested hills around Lake Herajärvi to the National Park.

Koli National Park
